NWMUN 2007

This weekend I had the opportunity to spend my time down in beautiful Seatac for the North West Model United Nations 2007 conference. To be honest I was thinking of bailing for a little while. Not really sure if I was going to have the energy to deal with it for 3 days. But I rallied and decided to give it a shot…. and it was awesome… The delegation from Seattle University was terrific and I met a ton of new people! When we arrived opening night in Seatac we had opening ceremonies and then the catered dinner. This years conference was hosted by the University of Washington, and im not sure who opted to have a cash bar..? But LEGENDARY…..

I represented Malawi and while certainly not a big player I had a lot of fun looking out for her interests. Everyone in my committee, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was pretty chill and I met so many terrific people!

U.K. – Great guy, I owe him a cigar at the next conference, S. Africa – and D.R. Congo, terrific… We rocked the Africa bloc and then we had the back row which we affectionately referred to as the ‘creepers’. They never really did anything but a lot of staring an asinine comments. And strangely hit on the delegate from Cuba a lot…. hmm…

All in all the conference was a smash. I think the SU team took home 2 awards for best delegate, honorable mention, and Best Overall Delegation. Sadly I did not submit a position paper in time because of midterms and laziness on my part so I was not in the running for any awards… though the chair of ECOSOC did congratulate me on the use of the phrase ‘No, No, No, America…. Open up your knowledge basket, because I’m about to drop some information.’ yea…. awesome.
