The road goes ever on…
This is my travel and photo blog for my study abroad in Tokyo, Japan (Which will begin in Spring 2008). The plan is to use this to journal my experiences as a language student in Japan with writing, observations, and photography. I am a 25 year old student at Seattle University where I am majoring in International Studies and minoring in Japanese and Asian Studies.
I won’t be leaving for Japan till April so I created this a little early. But i figured I could use the time to get used to writing and the like. As of this evening I have applied for a Freeman-Asia Grant to try and cover some of the expenses involved with studying abroad. Even finding a cheap program the cost essentially doubles when you factor in food, airfare, and all the other expenses that tend to crop up
Fingers crossed that the grant comes through!
This quarters menu is a pretty good one. Most of my classes are in areas I am deeply interested in and I consider it a small complaint when all i can say is that one of my classes just isn’t going to be hard enough. We have Contemporary Japanese Society, World Religions: East/West, and Ethics. All of the classes this quarter have there perks. The Japanese Society class, besides being incredibly relevant to my major, is taught by a wonderful professor who has had the foresight to removed midterms all together. The Ethics class, though pretty abstract and intense, is interspersed with personal stories about our professors scotch consumption. I love it.
So right now it really seems to be a matter of getting everything all lined up before April! The program I’ll be doing is essentially a language intensive course. I have completed first level Japanese…. But it wasn’t pretty. I figured if i wanted to learn the language it was go big or go home…. ganbatte kudasai.

Hey Tim,
Thanks for checking out my blog! If you’re free this Wednesday, there’s a Microsoft Halo 3 event at Seattle University starting at 4PM. I’ll be there giving a talk about XNA, the project I work on.
I think the location is Casey building, 4th floor. Other details are still coming in, but I’ll be on campus this Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm, it’d be great if you could drop by!
